Firefly Hollow Brewing Company

1139 Center St., Bristol, CT  06010
(860) 845-8977

I liked this place.  Unfortunately, they couldn’t get to the growth cycle needed to survive.

Signature Beer: Cone Flakes IIPA

Five-second Description: Not much has changed since they opened, love the recovered space, but a bit more could be done to create an outdoor area.  Food trucks at times and always friendly staff.

Why you should go: The beer is unique and good.  The tasting room is full of character and often has entertainment on the weekends.

Signature Beer: Angel’s Trumpet Double IPA

Five second Description:  This is a great little place that used to be a fruit stand.  Very small but comfortable and has really good beer.  They also bring in a small band on some weekends.

Why you should go: The beer quality is worth the visit.

Brewbury

1383 Whittemore Rd, Middlebury, CT 06762
(203) 518-9000

Signature Beer: Haka Time dry hopped pilsner

Five-second Description:  More of a restaurant vs a brewery.  They had 25 taps but were only serving 4 of their beers, which were good but certainly not great.  Very noisy with a lot of sports games.  They are also not part of the CT Brewer’s Guild, so no stamp here.  The food tasted good but the portions are not what I would expect at a place like this.

Why you should go: A good place if you are not serious about your beer and feel too old for Dave and Busters.

Woodbury Brewing

738 Main St S, Woodbury, CT 06798
Phone: (203) 405-3811

Signature Beer: Simplicity IPA or Betty Lager

Five second Description:  This is a full restaurant with a good selection of beer and a few guest beer menu which had high quality.  The food was good, but that is not why you should go.  Reminds me of an old western saloon on a deserted road near a ghost town.  Live bands there too at night.

Why you should go: Very unusual atmosphere and very cool old video games.

Five second Description: One of the nicest recovered spaces I have ever seen!  You can see 5 churches from the brewery (especially in the winter) Get their brick oven everything pretzel, it is awesome.

BAR

254 Crown St, New Haven, CT 06511
(203) 495-8924

Signature Beer: O’Patricks Irish Stout

Five-second Description:  In downtown New Haven near Yale.  More of a restaurant/bar than a brewery with great New Haven style pizza.  They do brew beer but don’t take it seriously.  It is a pretty cool space and they attract a wide variety of people there.

Why you should go: Go for the pizza and hit their guest taps..

Phantom Brewing Company

290 Murphy Road, Hartford, Connecticut 06114
860-247-2969

Signature Beer: King Tut IPA

Five-second Description:  Kind of an odd space in an office park that is half brewery and half beer making supply store.  The space is nice enough, but the beer supply area needs to be better separated as it detracts from the main room look and feel.  No real outdoor space to speak of other than a small grassy area.

Why you should go: If you go it should be about the beer, they have a wide range of types.

East Hartford Brewing

776 Tolland St, East Hartford, CT 06108
(860) 469-6135

Signature Beer: Ten Penny Ale

Five-second Description:  Great revival of the Burnside Brewing location and brand.  Very comfortable new space set up in back with room to lounge and an outside garden.  The Juicy Penny IPA is also getting very good.  Looking forward to more IPAs, but if you like other beers, they have a wide selection.

Why you should go: It is all about the water and they have a great water source that used to be used for an ice company.
